The place

The Mémorial de la Shoah is a museum devoted to Jewish history during World War II, and the Holocaust. It has opened its doors to the public in january 2005.

It houses both a museum and the Centre de documentation juive contemporaine (CDJC) founded during World War II with the goal of gathering documentary evidence of the genocide of european jews.

Scholars may find here one of the biggest european collection of documents on the Holocaust.

A sound installation by swedish and belgian artists Miriam Bäckström and Carsten Höller, dedicated to the jewish children who were deported, and named "Le passage amplifié", was inaugurated on September 23rd, 2008. It consists of a range of speakers aligned into the Allée des Justes, along the Memorial, which amplifies and distorts the sounds of the street so as to give the impression that they're coming out of nowhere.
